Coupled with a 3-2 UM win over the Bulldogs on Friday night in Ann Arbor, Michigan has how won 7 of its last 8 games.

Five Wolverines scored on Saturday night. Carl Hagelin, Lee Moffie and Scooter Vaughan each had a goal and an assist and Derek DeBlois scored the other goal for Michigan.

UM and MSU Split Weekend Hockey Series

January 10, 2011

What is it about Friday?

The University of Michigan ice hockey team lost at Michigan State University last Friday night 4-3 in overtime. For the 7th ranked Wolverines (USA Today poll), 13-6-4, it was the fifth time they have come up short in a Friday game. On a more positive note, Michigan bounced back the following night and defeated MSU 4-0 at Yost Arena in Ann Arbor. That win kept the Wolverines unbeaten in Saturday games.

The Saturday night victory was highlighted by two goals from senior co-captain Carl Hagelin and a 28-save shutout performance by senior goaltender Shawn Hunwick. The shutout was the second of the season for Hunwick who previously shut out MSU in the Big Chill at the Big House outdoor game in December.

The Wolverines are off until Jan. 14-15 when they try to break the Friday night jinx by taking on Ferris State in a home-and-home series starting in Ann Arbor. The scene shifts to Big Rapids on Saturday in the second game of the series against the Bulldogs.
